Johnny Gargano: I Don't Think I Would Be Where I Am Today If I Wasn't Born In Cleveland, It Hardens You

Johnny Gargano says being from Cleveland makes you work harder to prove people wrong.

Cleveland native Johnny Gargano was the face of NXT for several years. He and Tommaso Ciampa were a successful team, and they also had a heated rivalry after they broke up. After Gargano left the company at the end of 2021, he returned on the August 22nd, 2022, episode of WWE Raw. Gargano later reunited with Ciampa, and they won the WWE Tag Team Championship on the July 5th, 2024, episode of WWE SmackDown.

Speaking with Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp at a media event ahead of WWE SummerSlam in Cleveland, Johnny Gargano discussed being from the city.

"I don’t think I would be where I am today if I wasn’t born in Cleveland, Ohio. It just hardens you. It builds you into a certain type of person. People come to our city all the time and talk crap about us. They say we’re this, we’re bad, we’re whatever, our city sucks. It makes you harden and makes you work harder to prove people wrong," Gargano said.

During the interview, Gargano and Ciampa said they thought that the WWE Tag Team Championships were the prettiest titles in the company. Check out their comments here.

Gargano and Ciampa lost the WWE Tag Team Championship to Jacob Fatu and Tama Tonga on the August 2nd episode of WWE SmackDown. More information is available here.
