Ronda Rousey: Paul Heyman Is One Of The Few People Who Really Encouraged Me Creatively In WWE

Ronda Rousey is grateful that she got to work with Paul Heyman.

Ronda Rousey had a memorable and controversial run in WWE. She headlined WWE WrestleMania 35 and later won the 2022 Women's Royal Rumble. Rousey won the SmackDown Women's Championship twice, and she held the Raw Women's Championship. Since she left WWE in August 2023, she has been outspoken with her criticism about her experience. However, Rousey has highlighted a positive part of her time with WWE.

Speaking with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Ronda Rousey discussed working with Paul Heyman during her time in WWE.

“He’s one of the few people who really encouraged me creatively. He showed me I’m so much more than just what my body can do. That’s how so many people see me–as an athlete, as a fighter. It’s all about performing, being on camera, focusing on what I can do physically–but it was different with Paul," Rousey said.

Rousey's debut graphic novel, "Expect The Unexpected", will launch through a Kickstarter campaign on July 25. The former WWE star continues to work on other projects as well, and she noted that Heyman encouraged her to create beyond herself.

“It was Paul Heyman who said, ‘What do you want your movie to be?’ Paul produced my segments during the second half of my first year in WWE, and he really worked with me on being able to write my own promos and deliver them. I’d wrote before, two memoirs, but not creatively–he encouraged me to create outside of myself. Paul was my first mentor as a writer, and he saw that in me," Rousey said.
