Margot Robbie's first interaction with John Cena didn't go as smoothly as she hoped.
Appearing on the July 21 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live (guest hosted by Anthony Anderson), Robbie, Cena, and James Gunn appeared to promote their upcoming film, The Suicide Squad. During the segment, the Harley Quinn actor revealed that she watched WWE growing up and dated someone who was obsessed with her co-star.
"I watched WWE when I was growing up," Robbie said. "When I was a kid, I loved the Undertaker, and then obviously when I was a teenager I kind of stopped watching. But then, as a late teen, early 20s, I had a boyfriend who was obsessed with John Cena — so much so that he dressed as John Cena for his 21st birthday, and [he] had a cardboard cutout of John Cena in his bedroom. So I slept in a room for two years with a life-size cardboard cutout of John Cena in the room."
Robbie hoped to play it cool when she first met Cena, but things didn't go quite according to plan.
"And I remember thinking, 'I wonder if now that I'm going to work with John Cena, should I tell him this or is that going to be weird?'" Robbie recalled. "And I thought, 'I'm just going to keep that to myself. I'm not going to tell him. That'd be a weird way to start our working relationship.' And then five seconds into meeting him, I'm like, 'I used to sleep in a room with a life-size cutout of you.'"
The WWE Superstar didn't seem bothered by the story, at all, leading Robbie to say that there is very little that weirds Cena out.
Anthony Anderson, however, couldn't get over the fact that Robbie's boyfriend had a life-size cutout of another man in his room.
Cena replied by saying, "In my defence, I was more than likely wearing jean shorts."
"Yep, yeah," Robbie confirmed.
The Suicide Squad is set to hit theatres on August 5, 2021. A spin-off television series starring Cena's Peacemaker character is set to debut on HBO Max in January 2022.
Cena recently returned to WWE at Money in the Bank on Sunday, July 18. The next night on Raw he announced his intentions to challenge Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship at SummerSlam. Last night on SmackDown, The Tribal Chief rejected Cena's proposal and instead accepted one from Finn Balor.
